President Obama to Appoint Members to NLRB (1/5/12)

President Obama will use recess appointments to break a partisan Republican deadlock and name three new members to the National Labor Relations Board, the White House announced today.
The move echoes a similar recess appointment to the board in 2010 that allowed the NLRB to function properly.

Since January 1, board has had only two members, crippling the board’s ability to examine unfair labor practice complaints, union elections and other workplace issues.

Using Senate recesses to make cabinet appointments is not unusual. President George W. Bush made 170 recess appointments during his time in office.
