President Obama Names Pro-Union Lawyer to Head NLRB (1/28/09)

In a bold decision that will help millions of U.S. workers, President Obama has nominated Wilma Liebman to be the next chairwoman of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Liebman, a progressive labor lawyer, has been a member of the NLRB for the last eight years. In that position she fought hard against the labor board's Republican majority in their drive to weaken unions and rob workers of their right to organize. "In nominating Wilma Liebman President Obama has already done more for American workers in one week than George Bush did in eight years," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum. "The NLRB was created to protect the right to organize so workers could join unions. Now, with President Obama's choice of Wilma Liebman, the NLRB will have the leadership it needs to start living up to its mission again,"he added.
