Macy's RWDSU Members Rally in Support of Daffy's Workers (10/6/09)

RWDSU Local 1-s Officers and Macy's shop stewards rallied at the Daffy's store in Herald Square in New York City today, showing their support for the working men and women at the retailer who are fighting for a union voice. The activists went for a walk through the Daffy's store to deliver a letter to management demanding that the workers' desire to join  the RWDSU be recognized.

A large majority of workers at Daffy's have filed a petition asking for a union election, and signed a letter to management requesting recognition of the union. Daffy's management has refused, and illegally fired a pro-union worker at the store, a move which  prompted the RWDSU to file charges against the company with the U.S. government's National Labor Relations Board.

"This company is engaging in all the old tricks, including harassment and intimidation, to keep their workers down," said RWDSU Organizer Sadatu Mamah-Trawill. "A pro-union worker, Trish Stafford, was illegally fired for speaking out in favor of the union. We want to show them that they aren't alone in this fight."

Daffy's workers have complained about low pay, no raises, favoritism, unsanitary conditions and abuse by management.
