Walmartfree NYC Teach-In at Occupy Wall Street (10/21/11)

Walmart Free NYC, a coalition of unions including the RWDSU and UFCW, community groups, small business owners, and clergy, conducted a teach-in about how Walmart stores affect communities at Zuccotti park yesterday for hundreds of Occupy Wall Street activists.

On hand were Walmart workers who described the low wages and mistreatment they suffered on the job, and elected officials like Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.

"I think Walmart has helped destroy the American middle class. Walmart's trying to come into New York City and we have to do everything to stop it," de Blasio (above) said.

Following the event, activists rallied in front of Walmart’s New York City headquarters on Broadway.
