New Contract for West New York Crossing Guards (11/12/08)
The members of the Local 108 West New York Crossing Guards unit work in all types of weather ensuring that kids in the New Jersey town get to school and back safely. Since 2001, when the crossing guards joined Local 108, each contract has added benefits and wage increases. The new three-year contract ratified by members on October 30 is no exception.
The new contract contains wage increases each year of the contract, along with two additional paid holidays, New Year’s Day and the day after Thanksgiving. Funeral leave was also added into the contract.
“This is the third contract for the West New York crossing guards, and the members continue to see new benefits,” said Local 108 Representative George Giordano. “Prior to joining the union, this was a minimum wage job with no benefits, and this has changed for the better with every union contract.”
