NLRB Approves Faster Union Elections (12/1/11)

On November 30, the National Labor Relations Board voted 2-1 to tentatively approve changes in labor law which would speed up union elections. The rule changes aim to reduce delays which have become standard in unionization votes, in ways like requiring employers to postpone legal challenges to elections until after workers vote. Currently, challenges before votes are allowed and can delay voting for months. 

According to Mark G. Pearce, the board’s chairman, the changes will help streamline a process that is currently “laden with unnecessary delays.”
