President Obama Speaks Out for Employee Free Choice Act (2/12/09)

In a wide-ranging interview with major newspapers yesterday, President Obama sent a strong message that it's time to pass Employee Free Choice Act, the labor-backed proposal which would allow millions of workers to seek union membership without employer interference.

According to the Detroit Free Press, President Obama said he would not urge any delay of consideration of the Employee Free Choice Act and shot down big business and right-wing claims that it would hurt the economy.

"I don't buy the argument that providing workers with collective-bargaining rights somehow weakens the economy or worsens the business environment," Obama said. "If you've got workers who have decent pay and benefits, they're also customers for business."
