Hillary Clinton Addresses RWDSU Executive Board (5/11/07)

RWDSU Recorder Amelia Tucker reported on the activities of the Chicago Joint Board.

Senator Hillary Clinton spoke with the RWDSU Executive Board on the third and final day of its meeting. She thanked the RWDSU for its continued support and mentioned that the union was the first to endorse her campaign for Senate in 1999. She said that if she was elected President she would continue to work with the union in fighting for working people.

RWDSU Vice Presidents Frank Bail and John Durso joined in the discussion on the 2008 presidential elections.

Dr. Thomas J. Mackell, Jr., who serves as president of the Association of Benefit Administrators, opened a discussion with the board about the health of pension plans in the U.S. He raised concerns about legislative attacks in Congress aimed at undermining traditional pension plans. RWDSU Health and Benefits Funds Administrator Mark Davis reported to the board on the status of the union’s health and pension funds which he said were in great financial shape.

Board members also gave reports highlighting organizing and bargaining activity in the areas they represent. The board also heard an update on union member benefits provided by the Union Privilege program.
