U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton took to the Senate Floor today in support of the Employee Free Choice Act. Clinton has been a vocal supporter of the bill, which would require employers to recognize a union if a majority of workers sign union cards. This would help workers gain a union voice without the current flawed election process, which is vulnerable to illegal but seldom-punished employer intimidation and abuses.
"This is about preserving, supporting, and growing the American middle class. The middle class is the backbone of the American economy and our unions are the backbone of the American middle class," Clinton said in her address.
"It's time we passed into law the Employee Free Choice Act to give unions a level playing field so they can organize for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the hard-won rights and responsibilities that American workers demand and deserve," Clinton added.
