Cleaning Service Workers Get First RWDSU Contract (11/8/07)

In September 2007, the 10 employees of the Maiday-Mayday Cleaning Service in New York City ratified their first RWDSU contract. The workers, who clean offices in Manhattan, joined Local 670 in July.

“I’m excited about my first union contract,” said employee Daryl Ogarra. One feature of the agreement that he’s particularly happy with is that the company will now pay into a new savings plan for the workers. “It’s reassuring to know that I’ll have a nice financial security blanket when I leave this job.”

In addition to the retirement plan, the new contract also provides significant wage increases, new vacation days and a grievance procedure.
