First Contract for NYC Maintenance Workers (11/13/07)
RWDSU Local 670 members employed by Baxter Street Development
Company at a new office building in New York City have ratified their
first union contract. The contract includes a competitive starting
salary, 10 percent pay raises for each of the following years of the
agreement, a $1.50 per hour wage hike retroactive to January 2007,
time-and-a-half for overtime, a pension and an annuity, full medical
coverage for themselves and their immediate family, paid holidays and
sick days, and job security. “Until we joined the union,” said worker Haiffe Wile, “we didn’t have the type of pay, benefits or job security that we felt we deserved. Our first union contract has taken care of that.”
