Local 579 Raises Funds for Leukemia Research (6/5/08)

 

RWDSU Local 579 members bowl for a good cause 

RWDSU Local 579 in Sudbury, Canada, raised money for leukemia research by holding a two day bowling event and by soliciting donations at a Your Independent Grocer store as part of its ongoing efforts to help fight the disease. The event raised $4,700 through the contributions of RWDSU members.

"Everyone here has had their lives affected in one way or another because of leukemia and other cancers, and we all know how important it is to help those who are fighting these terrible sicknesses," said Local 579 Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Black. Other events, such as barbecues at Your Independent Grocer stores that employ Local 579 members, are planned in the near future.
