RWDSU Joins Campaign to Protect Professionals' Integrity (6/9/09)
Though many have graduate degrees under their belts, professionals need a strong voice in the workplace, too. That's never been more true than today as employers try to cut corners, increase workloads, and, in the process, undermine the ability of pharmacists, nurses, teachers, scientists, and other professionals to do the jobs they were trained for.
To protect the integrity of the professions, the RWDSU joined forces with 17 other unions and professional organizations to launch Professionals for the Public Interest: a new project of the AFL-CIO's Department for Professional Employees (DPE). The RWDSU is a DPE affiliate.
"The RWDSU has always been a strong voice for pharmacists and librarians and other professionals," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum. "Now we are a proud part of a coalition that will work to protect the ability of professionals to do their work free from external pressures that potentially compromise the quality of their work."
Appelbaum encouraged RWDSU professionals to find out more about Professionals for the Public Interest on the coalition's new website: pftpi.org.
