RWDSU members are serving as delegates, alternates and as committee membersĀ at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, this week, as well as helping to staff the convention. At the convention, the Democratic Party will officially nominate Senator Barack Obama as its presidential candidate, and Senator Joe Biden as its vice presidential candidate.
At a reception for the New York delegation event last night hosted by the union, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum spoke about the importanceĀ for working people of electing Sen. Barack Obama.
"Our mission is to take the country back and to elect Barack Obama as our president," RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum said. "If we do that, 2008 will truly be a historic year."
Appelbaum also introduced New York Governor David Patterson before he spoke with attendees.
"We have worked with David Patterson for a long time, and he understands the needs of working people in this state," Appelbaum stated.
Senator Charles Schumer (D- NY) also addressed attendees at the event.
