RWDSU Endorses Cy Vance for Manhattan DA (8/6/09)
The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union today endorsed Cy Vance (above, front left) for Manhattan District Attorney.
Stuart Appelbaum (above right), President of the RWDSU said, “We are endorsing Cy Vance because we need a leader who understands the role that the District Attorney’s office can play in protecting the rights of working people.”
“Cy has pledged to work with unions, immigrant advocates, responsible businesses, and community groups to empower workers and educate business owners and build partnerships in order to protect the rights of working people. It is a bold vision and one that we are proud to support,” said Mr. Appelbaum.
“The top priority of the District Attorney is to protect residents from crime. As we continue to drive down street crime, we must sharpen our focus on labor crimes that rob hardworking men and women of fair wages and create an unfair business environment,” said Vance. “I’m proud to have the support of New York’s Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which vigilantly protects workers from abuse. Businesses that violate laws and threaten the safety of workers and the public are put on notice – they will be found, and they will be prosecuted.”
