RWDSU Takes Orlando as Delegates Prepare for Convention (8/1/10)

RWDSU delegates, alternates, and guests have come together in Orlando, Florida, ready to take part in the 21st Quadrennial RWDSU Convention. They came from across the U.S. and Canada, from communities in Mississipi to cities in Northern Ontario.

This past weekend, hundreds of RWDSUers began arriving here in Orlando and preparing for the convention, which begins this morning at 9:30 am. On Saturday, dozens of RWDSU volunteers helped assemble the delegate bags, including materials like the latest RWDSU Record, Retail Action Project newsletter, convention badges, a card redeemable for the convention gift, and a red RWDSU hat that all attendees will wear for the panoramic convention photo.

Volunteers also helped assemble the popular RWDSU goodies bags, which provide a real taste of what RWDSU members do across North America. From Twinkees to barbecue sauce, RWDSU members make it all.

On Sunday from noon to 9 pm, registration was held in the hall near the ballroom hosting the RWDSU Convention. Whether this upcoming convention is their first, or they are returning veterans, the energy among attendees was evident.

“This is my first one, and I’m excited about my new union voice on the job, and about getting to know my new RWDSU family,” said on-call firefighter Peter Moss (above), who just ratified his first union contract in Petawawa, Ontario.

RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum registers for the convention this afternoon.
